"The Big Chair -Here You Sit, Here You Stay"
Exhibition Denver Colorado 2011
For the "Here You Sit, Here You Stay" exhibition I have chosen a body of work with a central image of a large outsized chair.
Beginning in 1981 this image has been a starting point for in of my work. Its reoccurrence has had many meanings over the years and has become a constant companion. The image of the chair also has inherent meaning, chairs can be places for respite or punishment, and they can represent having a place or providing an arena for communication, as well as communicate a sense of absence.
This exhibition included work in a wide variety of formats including monotypes, photos from installations, lithographs, etchings, drawings, reproductions of paintings, schematic designs and a re-creation of the original "the chair" built in 1982.
